What is it about the big blue ocean that lures us in?
Anyone that has ever been scuba diving will tell you, it's a whole new world once you slip below the surface.
One of the best known ocean documentaries, Blue Planet, is so aptly named, because it really is like you're on a different planet, even just a few meters down.
Nothing comes close to the thrill of spotting a turtle munching on sea grass, an eel poking its head out from beneath a rock, a dolphin swimming circles around you, or a sleek and silent shark cruising past.
On closer inspection of the reefs and sea beds, you can find tiny pipe fish bobbing above the sand, and brightly coloured nudibranchs amongst the corals, who's nickname 'sea bunnies' suit their very cute exteriors, with little rabbit ear-like rinophors.
Whether its megafauna, or macrolife reef organisms that capture your heart, with hundreds of thousands of different species in our oceans, there is a marine animal out there that will mesmerize you and leave you desperate to swim with them again.
I've been diving for over five years now, and quickly caught the big, blue bug.
I became an affiliate with PADI so that I could offer the same opportunities to like-minded people. I've carefully selected some of the greatest scuba experiences you can possibly have in your lifetime.
Many of these PADI dive trips involve eco-diving and conservation, so you get the most out of your travel and diving experience, and put a little bit back into the oceans while you're at it.
A truly life-changing scuba dive trip, is to stay on a liveaboard. These select vessels are kitted out with everything a diver needs for several days of back-to-back scuba at a variety of unique dive sites, all while traveling and living on the ocean.
Maybe the sciences hold a special place in your heart?
There is the chance to work alongside experienced marine scientists, helping them to preserve and nurture reefs to maintain their biodiversity, and protect the abundant organisms in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, or you can take part in educational research diving around the Sea of Cortez in Mexico.
If you want to do more than just diving, check out the hotels and resorts
I chose for the breathtaking beauty of the area, relaxing vibes, as well as the incredible snorkeling and scuba offerings nearby. Like this stunning eco-resort in Mozambique, rustic bungalows close to white sand beaches in Tanzania, and Tripadvisor Traveler's Choice Award 2019 winner, Eco Dive Grenada in the Caribbean.
Wherever you end up, I know it'll be a trip you'll be bragging about for years.
